Benjamin Roseberry Misc Empty Chairs

What happens when a vision does not manifest itself in the way you forsee it?  How many times do small movements inspired by great leaders die out because the end result was different from what they envisioned?  Maybe it is time to reevaluate what the definition of success is.  For example, in Les Miserables the French Revolution was about to be in full force.  They started the attack upon the death of a prominent political figure.  Within a couple days, however, almost all of the revolution was killed.  Marius, one of the lead characters, sings a song about the defeat.  In one part he sings, “Oh my friends, my friends, don’t ask me what your sacrifice was for.  Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more.”  The end in his sight was that his friends would be alive and that the revolution would live on.  Many people would have jumped on board, rallying against the French government.  However, during the fights people were closing their windows, ignoring what was going on in the street below them.  But soon after, as the townspeople are cleaning the blood from the streets, they start to have revelations of their true loyalty to the revolution.  The revolution did in fact live on. It just did not happen in the way the leaders envisioned.
