Steven Watts-Donnie Darko
This film instantly became one of the most thought provoking movies that I have watched to date. Other than the strong presence of the discussion between predestination or free will, I found Donnie's choice to die in the end to be the most interesting and challenging themes of this film. Although you do not know this until the very end of the film, all the events that occur during the film are a vision of what would occur if Donnie did not die in his room that day. His decision to die in his room was an incredible act of sacrifice and love for the ones that he truly cared about. The ability that Donnie displayed to assess how his actions in his present and future life could effect the lives of others is something that I believe should be mimicked by everyone. Even though it may seem idealistic, imagine a world where people thought about their actions and their repercussions before they followed them through. The effect that we have on other peoples lives is something that should not be taken for granted, let alone ignored completely.
