Steven Watts-Boston Marathon
In light of recent events in our ever tumultuous world, I found the media coverage of the Boston marathon bombings to be very inspiring and uplifting amongst the horrible reality of the situation. Although there was the inevitable questioning of the who, what, and why, the media used their presence on national television as a source of hope for those who were effected by the bombings that day. They choose to cover stories of heroism, ways to locate loved ones, and how capable and efficient the law enforcement officers were. The choice to focus on that side of the story, rather than the terrifying and crippling side, is what brought the community of Boston, as well as the United States as a whole, to draw together in a great community. In news, just like in film, you have the ability to set the tone of the message that you are hoping to portray, and I applaud the news networks for choosing to instill confidence and hope in the citizens of Boston and the rest of the United States.
