Marion Lichty: Random #5

MirrorMask is about a young girl named Helena, who works at her family’s circus.  She is unhappy with her life and yells at her mother about that.  Her mother becomes ill and Helena goes off into the world she created on her bedroom wall.  In this world, you have the White Queen, and the Queen of Darkness, who both resemble her mother, and the princess, who resemble Helena herself, in a world that’s split between the light and the dark.  The White Queen is in an eternal slumber and Helena has offered to find the mirror mask to wake her up.  She ventures through this world with her friend Valentine in search of the mask.   They find it and are able to wake the White Queen up from her slumber.
MirrorMask  is an interesting movie about how Helena creates a world where her mother is depicted as good and evil.  This movie shows that every person has the choice to act on righteousness or act on evil.  The only difference in Helena’s real world is the individual must choice to act on one; whereas in her made up world, the characters act on the one or the other.  For example, the princess acts on selfishness and the White Queen acts on good moral.  This shows that an individual must resist the temptations to do the wrong thing.  Overall, this was a great movie and I highly suggest people watch this movie.
