I just read
an article about a couple in Pennsylvania who just had their second child die.
Each time they knew the child was sick, yet refused to take him to the doctor.
The Schaible’s belong to a fundamentalist church that believes in faith
healing. Both times, the parents prayed for God to heal their son, and both
times their son died. I think this is a good example of how God works in ways
that may not be the most obvious. This story reminded me of the drowning man
joke:
There was a guy drowning in the ocean. He prayed to
God to save him.
A few minutes later a boat came and offered to pick him up and take him to shore. The drowning man refused and said, “God will save me!”, so the boat left.
Another boat came and offered to save the man and he said, “No, God will save me!”, so once again the boat left.
Finally a third boat came and said I can help you. Once again the drowning man said no.
The man then drowned and ended up going to heaven. When he met God he said, “God I prayed to you to save me, but you didn’t!”. God replied, “I sent you 3 boats and you refused them all!”

The moral of this is that God may probably isn’t going to directly speak
to you and answer your prayers, but he sends you the people or resources to
solve your issues. For this reason, doctors are the tools that God sends us.
They are here for a reason and people should really take advantage of that.
