Oz: The
Great and Powerful is a new movie that is about how the
wizard got to Oz and became the wizard of Oz. This movie was fantastic prequel to the well-known
story of the Wizard of Oz.
Different aspects that I noticed in the film were the black and white to
color transition, the good and evil characters, and the theme of believing or
having faith. The black and white
film was used at the beginning of the movie. This to me showed the dreary life the wizard was
living. This quickly transitioned
to the color film. The color film
showed the life of Oz and all the strange plants and creatures. This foreshadowed the wonderful life
the wizard could have in Oz. The
good versus evil aspect was mostly portrayed in the White Witch, Glinda, and
the evil witch, Evanora. Glinda
symbolized the good and the pure; whereas, Evanora symbolized the evil and
wicked. Lastly, the theme of having
faith and believing is shown throughout the film. The most important example of this is the people of Oz
having faith in the wizard, even when they knew he wasn’t a real wizard. Overall, this was a great movie and I
enjoyed watching it.
