Benjamin Roseberry Movie Donnie Darko

Donnie Darko
The part of Donnie Darko that I like to focus on is when the human portal is being introduced.  Donnie’s father is sitting on the couch watching sports as Donnie observes him.  All of a sudden, a plasma substance begins to rise out of his father’s chest.  It seems to be charting a path for where he is to walk.  Donnie further researches this phenomenon and discovers that it can be harnessed and used for human time travel.  However, as I was reflecting on this, it brings up an interesting thought about free will, desires, and predeterminism.  The path seems to reflect the desires of the person it is coming out of.  It is almost as if the persons soul and mind are already on the path, all that must follow is the body.  However, what if one were to break from that path?  The path, though seemingly predeterminded, could possibly be interrupted.  However, it would seem that someone would have to stop them from following the path.  For instance, if Donnie were to go over and stop his dad, physically, from going into the kitchen at that moment, it would break the system.
This raises the question of whether or not our lives are determined by our desires.  If this is the case, then we would have to have our desires changed in order to change our outcome.  This would align with Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  In other words, one way to change the desires of ones heart would be to delight in the LORD and he would give new desires.
