Marion Lichty: Film Techniques

Film Techniques:

The films that were observed were bunny, Northfork, Paris Texas, Pink Floyd, and Cabeza de Vaca.  The film Bunny shows the theme of death.  She is an old bunny, who is all alone.  The aspects that help show this theme are the timer, which shows time is running out, and the viewing of the picture, which shows she longs to be with her husband.  The light in the oven is another important aspect symbolizing her journey to the afterlife.  The second film Northfork is also a movie about death and transcendence to heaven.  Coffin onto of the car with the mountains in the background is important to show this.  The coffin symbolizes death and the car traveling to the top of the mountains is a way of showing transcendence to a higher place.  The third film Paris Texas is about a man who is traveling through the countryside.  This movie has multiple scenes involving communication.  Some of these scenes include phone lines, train, shoes, airport, and binoculars.  All are ways of communicating with other people.  The fourth film Pink Floyd is an animation about war.  The film techniques show the devastation of war and the lack of education.  The film also portrays the Judge and many other characters in a gruesome looking way.  This shows that judgment or people in general are not all righteous.  The last film was Cabeza de Vaca.  One great film technique was the scene of the man trying to run away but ending up right where he started.  Instead of dealing with the situation; he thought it was appropriate to run from it instead.  These films along with many others show different themes and aspects with just the film technique.
